Use when: the baseline currently shipped — subcategory headers + plain dense rows (name, range, value, change). Clear structure, but every row looks identical, so nothing helps the eye jump around within a group.

Use when: the list itself should communicate shape, not just numbers — a tiny trend line next to every row gives instant visual differentiation (rising/falling/volatile) without reading any text, and is much faster to scan than a wall of digits.

Use when: you want to jump straight to a zone by color instead of reading section headers — a persistent thin colored strip on every row of a group acts as a always-visible group indicator, useful once a page has many groups stacked and you're scrolling past headers.
Use when: the list is data-first, not card-first — a real table with column headers reads denser than repeated rows and lets the eye compare one column (e.g. all the % changes) straight down, which flex-rows don't support well. Closest to how FRED/ArmStat-style data sites present long lists.

Use when: the total indicator count is large enough that even a grouped list is a long scroll — collapsing every group but one by default shows just 3–4 short labels up front, and expanding is one click. Directly reduces the 'long undifferentiated scroll' problem rather than just labeling it.
Use when: browsing feels like one continuous workspace instead of separate pages — a left tree (category, expandable to its subcategories) stays visible while the right pane swaps content, so jumping from GDP to Inflation to Exports never reloads the page shell. This is the FRED / data-portal pattern, and it's the only option here that changes navigation structure rather than just row styling — it composes with any of designs 1–5 for the content pane itself.
Use when: you want the full experience of a chart/table page (like /statistics/economic/gdp) but reachable by clicking through a sidebar without ever leaving this page — this is the real IndicatorContent component (same chart types, compare mode, CSV export, table) driven by real indicator data, swapped in place when a sidebar item is clicked.
